Cool Night Water

by Phil Carmen

Another scorching summer's day Melting all the tarmac streets away Beneath my feet, the heat is getting stronger No mercy from the burning sun Beads of perspiration on my face Humidity, the air so heavy Cool night water So darn hot the sky's on fire Too darn hot to feel desire It's so darn hot the birds won't sing I wish the dust were here to my rescue cool night water Lazy like a winter fly Hear the churchbell ring the hour A summer storm would certainly, certainly relieve me Taking one more freezing shower Trying to keep my mind alive Some ice cold Russian tea for inspiration Cool night water Too darn hot the sky's on fire Too darn hot to feel desire Too darn hot the birds won't sing Too darn hot for anything and I wish I could, I wish that I could swim, In cood night water In cool night water
